Idle commercial personal property and industrial machinery assets. Do not hoard idle assets -- they cost you $$$$.  Machinery is like a diesel truck -- it makes no money parked. Why?  Used machinery with no likely future in your business takes up valuable space OR WORSE -- in some states anything on the books is subject to personal property tax and insurance $$$$. When? Get rid of anything with no immediate or near future use.  Idle assets depreciate technologically as well as physically.  Technology spins like a top with nothing to do except get better, faster and cheaper.  SOME equipment with a programmable control is dead or dying after three to six years, and may or may not be subject to an economical retrofit.   For example, do not upgrade your personal computer when you can buy a new one with current software for the cost -- or less -- than the upgrade.
